Zoe Barnard has had a culturally enriched upbringing, full of travel and fond memories spent of summers with her family on Australian beaches. We sat down with Zoe to talk about the importance of choosing natural, her passion for filmmaking and her non-negotiables when it comes to skincare
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi my name is Zoe, I was born in Hong Kong but I moved to Australia when I was 12 and am currently living in New York City
What is your biggest passion?
What is my biggest passion….that is a really hard question! I am very passionate about skiing, my dog, being with the people I love and travelling
How does New York compare to Australia?
I am from Canberra so it’s pretty much the polar opposite, but I kind of love that as after a few months I get to go back to good old ACT
We hear you also have a passion for film making?
I do, I am very passionate about film making and think it is a very powerful medium and I would love to get into school to learn how to make documentaries
Tell us about your daily skin care regime?
My daily skin care regime starts with washing my face with a cleanser, then toning, moisturising and sunscreen
Why is it important you to use natural skin care?
I think it is really important to use natural ingredients when it comes to skin care. Your skin is the biggest organ in your body and we absorb everything that goes on it, so knowing where everything comes from and what you are putting on your skin is very important
What are some of your non-negotiables when it comes to skin care?
Non-negotiables for me with skin care would be to use little, ideally zero, chemical and synthetic ingredients as possible, definitely taking off your makeup before you go to bed and hydrating and moisturising as much as possible
What are some of your favourite self-care acts?
One of my favourite self-care rituals is having a bubble bath and applying a good face mask. It is a little girly and a little cliché, but it makes you feel great and masks that are natural like Hunter Lab’s Charcoal Mud Mask. You know what’s going on your skin. It’s amazing for detoxifying and cleansing your pores
What is your favourite Hunter Lab natural tool at the moment?
Travelling a lot, you always need a good lip balm in your bag and the Hunter Lab Lip Ammo not only smells like Christmas but is super smooth and hydrating
Did you grow up in Australia and spend time at the beach?
I lived in Hong Kong until I was 12, so didn’t have the luxury of going to the beach often, but once we moved to Australia, we spent every summer of the coast, so I definitely experienced the Australian sun
What’s your favourite beach in Australia?
My family and I always go down to Guerilla Bay, which is in the South Coast of NSW and it’s magical, just two weeks in the sun
Tell us about going to the beach and the importance of sun protection for you?
I think in Australia in summer, the most important thing we can do is to take the best care of our bodies and our skin and that is hydrating, but also using sunscreen and being sun smart
If you were having a day at the beach in summer what would your daily skin regime typically look like?
During the summer my typical skin care routine would consist of drinking lots of water, cleansing in the morning and night and layering up a few times a day with sunscreen
